"When it rains it pours". That statement has been proven true so many times yet we are always surprised when we see it happen. That's what has been happening to me lately but not so much in the negative sense that the phrase is normally used. Things haven't been all peachy but I can't say that it's all been bad.
The class work load is taking some getting used to and I sometimes find myself whining but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I'm finally learning the art of taking notes and making a schedule for my reading and assignments. Next, I hope to learn to stick to that schedule ;-). I have a couple of tests next week that I really need to study for and a speech I have to prepare for my Public Speaking course. (My sister lovingly noted that I would benefit more from a Public Shutting Up course. She may have a point.) So far, may favorite class has been my New Testament History class. I have an awesome teacher that always teaches in story form and keeps it from becoming boring. I actually look forward to his class so I can find out what happens next. The work in college is so much different from high school, Then, they told us what was true and all we had to do was read what they told us and answer the questions correctly. Now, I'm expected to think for myself, interpret the evidence, write on subject of my own choosing, and find my own resources for papers. I enjoy it more this way but it's a whole new way of learning that I haven't quite got the hang of yet.
Last week I had a little mishap. While running through the school halls (bad idea, I know) I stepped wrong and rolled my ankle over. The pain was incredible! By the next day it was very swollen and turning all sorts of pretty colors. Michelle did her best to take care of me but I'm not the most cooperative patient. She taught me a new acronym, R.I.C.E. It means rest, ice, compression, and elevation. I guess it's the proper way to care for a sprain. However, I only followed those rules when she was around. Which, of course, meant that when she was around my ankle got better while, when she was not around, it got worse. Imagine that! I think I'll live, though.
I have been doing a great deal of learning as well as re-learning since I've been here. I always knew I had a lot to learn but now I have to re-learn things I thought I knew and understood. I have had to ask some counselors and advisers at school to help me through some spiritual issues. Most anyone that knows me well knows how much I detest asking for help so understand that it was a difficult time. Thank God there are some good Christians here to guide and counsel me and do their best to make me not feel embarrassed for needing help. I won't go into many details about the spiritual issues because this blog is open to all but I will ask that anyone reading this would keep me in their prayers. Well, I gotta get back to homework now.
